Si tratta di una delle più inglesi città canadesi, ed è un'ottima base per tutti color che amano l'avventura: costoro potranno attraversare l' Inner Harbour in kayak, immergersi in queste splendide acque o percorrere a piedi il West Coast Trail.
We arrived on the ninth day of our vacation, after traveling by bus for a while we finally arrived in Victoria, a beautiful city, capital of 'island, which lies in the south-east of the island and enjoys a wonderful mild climate full of sunny days and warm.
This is one of the most British of Canadian cities, and is an excellent place for all those who love adventure, they will cross the 'Inner Harbour in a kayak, dive into these beautiful waters or walk the West Coast Trail.
Tanto per darvi un' idea generale sulla storia della città, bisogna innanzitutto dire che era originariamente abitata dai nativi salish ma, nel 1843, fu colonizzata quando James Douglas, agendo per l' Hudson's Bay Company, fondò Fort Victoria come stazione per il commercio delle pelli; nel 1849 entrò ufficialmente a far parte della Corona britannica.
Just to give you a 'general idea about the history of the city, must first be said that it was originally inhabited by native Salish, but in 1843, was settled when James Douglas, acting on the' Hudson's Bay Company founded Fort Victoria as a station for trade in hides; in 1849 became officially part of the Brtitish Crown.
Avevamo prenotato per una sola notte così,il giorno successivo, siamo andate a cercare un' altro ostello, trovando il backpackers di Victoria, l' Ocean Island, situato al 791 Pandora Avenue in un edificio che fa angolo.
I prezzi variano,
1) se si tratta di un letto in dormitorio dai 19 ai 28 $,
2)se cercate una stanza privata dai 28 agli 84 $
3) se invece cercate una suite si può arrivare dai 95 fino a 139 $ (a notte).
Appena entrate si sente subito un' aria molto allegra e divertente ma non saremmo potute rimanere là per piu di una notte.
Molto utile, se non determinante, è stato il VIC, Visitors Information Center ( Tel. 250-953-2033; www.tourismvictoria.com, 812 Wharf St; orario d'apertura 8.30-18) situato nell'Inner Harbour.
Se invece aveste bisogno di informazione circa i BC Ferries potete rivolgervi all'ufficio informazioni situato in Fort St, aperto dalle 7 alle 22 ( Tel. 250-386-3431).
Consiglio decisamente di passeggiare per la città ricca di splendidi negozi, boutique, ma anche centri commerciali.
Per gli amanti dei libri per i propri viaggi, nuovi o vecchi, ci sono varie librerie da vedere, in Johnson St, fra Douglas e Wharf: Lamplight Books e Munro's Books.
Il Bay Centre (tel. 250-382-7141) è davvero carino, grande e moderno dove potrete trovare negozi di ogni tipo, non ultimi splendidi e forniti negozi di Surf.

After having admired the harbor, we headed to our first hostel, the Hi of Victoria(http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-HI---Victoria-011078.en.htm) the prices are good, it is in a nice building at 516 Yates Street, number phone is (403) 670-7580, and very close you can find various supermarkets.
However the next day we had to go in another hostel, backpackers of
Victoria, "Ocean Island", located at 791 Pandora Avenue in a building on the corner.

When you enter you immediately feel a 'looked very happy and fun but, also this time, the next day we would have to leave becouse of the reservation just for one night.

You must to walk through the city filled with wonderful boutiques, but also shopping centers.
For book lovers for their trips, new or old, there are various libraries to see, in Johnson St, between Douglas and Wharf: Lamplight Books, Munro's Books.
The Bay Centre (tel. 250-382-7141) is really nice, big and modern where you can find shops of all kinds, not least, beautifully delivered surf shop.
Do not miss the shops to do jewellery, and those who love sport or 'sportswear Mountain Equipment (http://www.mec.ca/Main/home.jsp; this site may be useful as a reference for you idea).
Quest'affascinante zona è situata nell' estremità settentrionale della città e si tratta del quartiere cinese piu vecchio del Canada. Potrete trovare numerosi locali, ristoranti e mercati economici che animano tutte le Chinatown.
This charming area is located in 'northern end of town and is the oldest Chinatown in Canada. You can find many bars, restaurants and markets that animate all the cheap Chinatown.
L'udicesimo giorno saremmo finalmente andate a vedere le balene. Si tratta di uno spettacolo grandioso che offre questa particolare zona; da aprile a ottobre le acque a sud dell'isola ospitano una novantina di orche e sono numerose le uscite organizzate per ammirarle sia in gommone che in barca. Una dozzina circa sono le agenzia che offrono questo servizio ed ognuna si puo occupare di un determinato tratto di mare per cui occore informarsi bene prima di scegliere. Una di queste è la Five Star Whale Watching ( Tel. 250-388-7223, www.5starwhales.com, 706 Douglas St, adulti\ bambini 90-60, orario dalle 10 alle 14 e 17.30 )
Così alla fine di questa splendida avventura ci siamo dirette verso il nostro ostello, abbiamo fatto i bagagli e ci siamo informate al VIC se ci fosse stata la possibilità di trovare altro ed ecco una fantastica scoperta, i campus in estate affittano le stanze e offrono numerosi servizi anche di mezza pensione a prezzi convenientissimi!! Quella che vedete qui sotto è una vista di una parte del campus.
Si tratta della UVC, University of Victoria, situata in mezzo al verde in un grazioso quartiere, con una stazione degli autobus, un negozio di abbigliamento e molto altro, per non parlare dei numerosissimi punti di ristoro all'interno della stessa università che offrono qualunue tipo di cibo. Oltre a tutto questo c'è una splendida mensa che vi offrirà a prezzi davvero convenientissimi colazioni pranzi e cene ottime, tanto che non vorrete piu andarvene!
Le camere sono molto carine e davvero pulitissime così come i bagni al piano.
The eleventh day we finally went to see the whales. It is a great spectacle that offers this particular area, from April to October, the waters south of the island are home to about ninety orcas and there are many organized outings to admire in both raft and boat. A dozen agencies are offering this service and each one can occupy a given stretch of water does it take so well informed before choosing. So at the end of this wonderful adventure we headed to our hostel, we packed up and we informed the VIC if there was the possibility of finding another, and here is a fantastic discovery, the campus in summer rent rooms and offer many services including half board at bargain prices!

UVC is the University of Victoria, located in the woods in a nice neighborhood with a bus station, a clothing store and much more, not to mention numerous dining options within the same universities that offer many type of food. After all this is a beautiful table that will offer breakfast at a great bargain lunches and dinners really good, so that you will not want to leave!
The rooms are very nice and very clean as are the bathrooms floor.

Una caratteristica davvero interessante in questa universita è la presenza dei conigli.
Si tratta di un grande numero che vivono tranquillamente a contatto con l'uomo senza dare alcun disturbo.
Anzi sono davvero dolcissimi e molti anche socevoli. Questi che vedete nelle foto sono una delle ultime cucciolate, i piu piccoli che abbia visto e quando ci si avvicinava troppo in fretta tutti e dieci, circa, si nascondevano nella tana ma essendo troppi il piu piccolo in genere restava per ultimo e spuntavano furi le punte delle orecchie.
A really interesting feature in this university is the presence of rabbits.
This is a great number who live peacefully in contact with the man without giving any trouble.
Indeed many are really sweet and sociable too. You see in these pictures are one of the last litters, the smallest I've seen and when we approached too quickly all ten, about, hiding in the den but being too much the smallest generally remained the last and protruded out ears' tips.
In appena 10 minuti a piedi poi, potete arrivare in una piccola piazza dove troverete oltre a vari negozi uno Starbucks e un Subway.
In just 10 minutes walk then you can get in a little square where you will find various shops as well as a Starbucks and a Subway.
Giorno 13 :The Butchart Gardens.
Thirteenth day: The Butchart Gardens.
Un pò di storia può far comprendere meglio come sono nati questi splendidi giardini.
Nel 1888 Robert Pim Butchart cominciò la sua produzione di cemento a Portland, divenne rapidamente un grande successo e attratto dalla costa occidentale e dai suoi depositi calcarei costruì una fabbrica su Vancouver Island e li nel 1904 vi si stabilì con la sua famiglia.
Col passare del tempo il sig. Butchart esaurì il calcare, ma la moglie Jennie decise di organizzare un piano di ristrutturazione e prendendo diverse tonnellate di terra dai campi vicino alla cava iniziarono a nascere la Sunken Garden e poi intorno altri splendidi giardini.
Nel 1908 prendendo come spunto i loro viaggi crearono giardini giapponesi, italiani e molti altri.
La fama di quest' opera si diffuse rapidamente, migliaia di persone li andarono a visitare e la prima parola che lessero (e che ancora si legge), fu "benvenuto" la parola italiana per dire "welcome". Oggi la residenza contiene la sala da pranzo e degli uffici.
A bit of history may have been born to better understand how these beautiful gardens.
In 1888, Robert Pim Butchart began its production of Portland cement, quickly became a huge success and attracted the west coast and its calcium deposits built a factory on Vancouver Island and in 1904 they settled there with his family.
Over time Mr. Butchart exhausted the limestone, but his wife Jennie decided to organize a restructuring plan and taking several tons of soil from fields near the quarry started popping the Sunken Garden and then around other gardens.
In 1908, taking as starting their journeys created Japanese gardens, Italian and many others.
The fame of this' work quickly spread, thousands of them went to visit and the first word that they read (and still says) was "Benvenuto" the Italian word to say "welcome." Today the residence contains the dining room and offices.
Per arrivare a questi meravigliosi giardini ci sono numerose navette.
To achieve these wonderful gardens there are many shuttles.

Avendo finito prima di sera la visita ai Butchart Gardens, abbiamo pensato di dirigerci, una volta tornate in città, verso l' Inner Harbour, il cuore di Victoria, in cui spiccano due magnifici e imponenti edifici, il Fairmont Empress Hotel e i Parliament Buildings.
I Parliament Buildings, in pietra e rame, si trovano vicino al porto, furono progettati da Francis Rettenbury ( autore anche del Fairmont Empress Hotel ) e completati nel 1898. Sono caratterizzati da una cupola principale sulla quale vi è una statua del capitano George Vencouver, il primo bianco a circumnavigare l'isola.
Una volta dentro, durante la visita , potrete ammirare pavimenti in marmo, rifiniture in ottone e dipinti che illustrano la storia del Canada.
Having finished before evening visit to Butchart Gardens, we decided to head once again on the city, towards the Inner Harbour, the heart of Victoria, where there are two magnificent and impressive buildings, the Fairmont Empress Hotel and Parliament Buildings.
The Parliament Buildings, stone and copper, are located near the harbor, were designed by Francis Rettenbury (who also designed the Fairmont Empress Hotel) and completed in 1898. Are characterized by a main dome on which there is a statue of Captain George Vencouver, the first white man to circumnavigate the island.
Once inside, during the visit, you can see marble floors, brass fixtures and paintings illustrating the history of Canada.

Potete raggiungerlo passeggiando lungo Douglas St, verso sud rispetto al centro.
Si tratta di 61 ettari, comprendenti laghi, giardini, campi sportivi, e piccoli zoo organizzati per mettere i bambini a contatto con la natura.
You surely would not miss the wonderful Bacon Hill Park!
You can reach it by walking along Douglas Street, south of center.
It is 61 acres, including lakes, gardens, sports fields, and small zoo organized to put children in contact with nature.
Potrete inoltre ammirare il secondo totem più alto al mondo, una riserva per uccelli selvatici e un campo da cricket costruito circa un secolo fa.
You can also admire the totem second highest in the world, a reserve for wild birds and a cricket ground built about a century ago.
Il lato meridionale vi porta direttamente sull' oceano, e in Dallas St ci sono dei giardini che vi condurranno sulla spiaggia.
Vedrete dei paesaggi meravigliosi.
The south side takes you straight on 'ocean, and Dallas St there are gardens that lead you on the beach.

Interessantissima è la zona di Fisherman's Wharf, si trova a ovest dell' Inner Harbour, ricca di pescherecci e barche da riporto. Qui potrete comprare ottimo pesce e troverete uno splendido fish & chips: il Barb's Place (le potrate principali tra i 7 e 9 $, pranzo e cena), il piu buono, si dice, della zona. Si trova tra le innumerevoli barche ed accanto a quello che definirei un villaggio all'interno della città, si tratta di tutte case galleggianti o vecchie imbarcazioni fatte diventare abitazioni, dove molte famiglie vivono, e non vi nascondo che piacerebbe molto anche a me.
Interesting is the area of Fisherman's Wharf is located just west of the 'Inner Harbour, rich in vessels and boats over. Here you can buy excellent fish and you will find a wonderful fish and chips: the Barb's Place (the main course between 7 and $ 9, lunch and dinner), the most good, they say, in the area. It lies between the many boats and next to what I would call a village within the city, this is all old boats or houseboats made into homes, where many families live, and deny that there also would love to me.
Se poi sarete fortunati, appariranno, mentre state pranzano, delle foche che tenteranno di chiedervi qualcosa da mangiare e, se non vorrete dargli parte del vostro pranzo, proprio accanto al ristorante c'è un banchetto che vende dei pesci di cui sono golosissime.
Per me è stata un'esperienza incredibile.
If you are lucky, they will appear while you dine, seals attempting to seek something to eat and if you do not want to give part of your lunch, there's a restaurant right next to stalls selling fish which are tasty.
For me it was an incredible experience.

Le portate principali costeranno tra i 7 e gli 11 $ e si occupano di prima colazione pranzo e cena.
Si tratta di un divertente, chiassoso, gradevole locale con generosissime e invitanti porzioni. La colazione almeno una volta dovete farla lì, a Victoria è conosciutissimo, nel caso in cui trovaste coda siate fiduciosi e aspettate perchè ne vale davvero la pena.

This is a fun, noisy, pleasant and inviting room with highly generous portions. Breakfast at least once you have it there, is well known in Victoria, where you found the queue and wait until you are confident because it really is worthwhile.
L'ultimo giorno su Vancouver Island l'abbiamo dedicato, certo ai bagagli, ma anche alla visita delle spiagge frequentate dagli universitarie, giudicate voi stessi la loro bellezza.
The last day on Vancouver Island we have dedicated some baggage, but also to visit the beaches frequented by the university, judge for yourself their beauty.
Nei tre giorni successivi ci siamo fermate a Vancouver, ancora in giro per qualche negozio, poi via verso Toronto e di nuovo a Roma. 
La città ha ospitato, nei giorni in cui sono andata a visitarla, un'importante spettacolo televisivo ed era davvero facile incontrere cantanti italiani conosciuti; comunque spesso ospita eventi o feste tradizionali.
