L'estate 2008 è stata anche alla scoperta dell' Umbria, una regione italiana davvero eccezionale per la sua storia, popolazione e straordinaria cucina!
Purtroppo le informazioni di questo post saranno un pò generali, ma spero al piu presto di potervene fornire di piu precise e spero anche che, in ogni caso, le foto vi convincano a visitarla.
Avevamo deciso di trovare un agriturismo dove fermarci nei giorni della nostra vacanza e poi girare in macchina all' avventura. Credo che questo sia il modo migliore di visitare la zona.
Assisi è una delle città umbre piu conosciute per ragioni sia storiche che religiose, qui sono nati San Francesco e Santa Chiara, le chiese e gli edifici antichi sono numerosissimi e ogni anno sono in migliaia a visitarla.

Assisi is one of the best known Umbrian city for reasons

Sorge su un promontorio alle pendici del Monte Subasio. Ha origini romane, ma lo sviluppo medievale è evidente.
Il nucleo più antico della cittadina era difeso da 8 porte, fortificate e con una cinta muraria. Una parte delle mura sono ancora in buono stato e collegano la Rocca Maggiore alla Rocca Minore.
Nella Piazza del Comune potrete ammirare il Palazzo dei Priori (1337), il Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, e ,costruito nel periodo augusteo, lo splendido Tempio di Minerva.

The oldest of the town was defended by eight gates, and fortified with walls. Part of the walls are still in good condition and connected to the Rocca Maggiore to Rocca Minor.
In the Town Square you can admire the Palazzo dei Priori (1337), Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, and was built in the Augustan period, the magnificent Temple of Minerva.

La città ha ospitato, nei giorni in cui sono andata a visitarla, un'importante spettacolo televisivo ed era davvero facile incontrere cantanti italiani conosciuti; comunque spesso ospita eventi o feste tradizionali.

Questa città si trova nella zona settentrionale della regione, è importantissima dal punto di vista artistico e culturale, ospita importanti università e scuole, ed è sede di eventi di fama mondiale quali l'Umbria Jazz e l'Eurochocolate.
Di quest'ultimo parlerò in post successivi, mentre al primo ho potuto assistere personalmente nell'estate di cui vi sto parlando.
Si tratta di un evento emozionante nel quale gli artisti si esibiscono a tutti gli angoli delle strade riempiendo la città di favolose note musicali, allegria e sorrisi.
E' uno dei festival jazz piu importanti che riunisce ogni anno il meglio del jazz mondiale. 250 eventi distribuiti tra piazze, giardini, arene e teatri. Avrete la possibilità di ascoltare musica jazz, black, soul, ritmi latini e salsa.
Molti gli artisti italiani e stranieri che vi si esibiscono, tanto per fare qualche nome: George Benson, James Brown, Enrico Rava e molti altri.
Partecipano anche artisti di genere differente come Pino Daniele, Micheal Buble, Sting.

Consiglio di cercare i ristoranti meno turistici per avere la possibilità di provare sapori nuovi e genuini.

Lungo il corso Vannuci, che potete vedere qui accanto, ma anche lungo le parallele, numerosi sono i negozi davvero belli e caratteristica importante della città è che vi potrete far portare in centro da comode scale mobili e tapirulan.
E' in questa via che
troviamo monumenti d i importanza artistica quale il Palazzo dei Priori di architettura medievale e stile gotico.
Altri luoghi importanti da visitare sono l 'Arco Etrusco o Augusteo e le Basiliche di San Pietro e San Domenico.

Spoleto ebbe un grande sviluppo in epoca romana. Numerose le opere che risalgono a quel periodo, come ad esempio il ponte Sanguinario e i resti della casa Romana del I sec. d.C.
Non si può lasciare la città senza aver attraversato il Ponte delle Torri, un acquedotto costruito per l'approvvigionamento idrico della Rocca.

Stavo per commettere un grande errore!! Eh si perchè mi stavo dimenticando di parlarvi di un meraviglioso ristorante a Spoleto, dove dovete assolutamente andare: il Vecchio Camino!
Purtroppo non ho foto del ristorante ma il loro biglietto da visita si!!! :D

Si tratta di una città di origine Romana, fiorente sotto Augusto, che con l'avvento del cristianesimo divenne un importante centro religioso dell' Umbria.
Passò poi sotto il controllo dello Stato della Chiesa fino all' Unità d'Italia.
Una sua caratteristica è proprio quella di unire il carattere medievale a quello dei numerosissimi resti romani.
Non potete rinunciare ad una passeggiata per le vie del centro e i negozietti di prodotti tipici, personalmente non ho resistito a comprare un pò di cose per poi portarmele a casa.

Bevagna sorge nella valle umbra sud, era chiamata anticamente Mevania, conserva numerosi resti romani. E' una cittadina davvero caratteristica e deliziosa con tutte le sue strade e vicoli tra i quali passeggiare.
Essendo stata costruita in pianura, nei secoli passati fu sottoposta a numerosi saccheggi e più volte ricostruita.
Famosi sono i suoi artigiani, attivi tutto l'anno, portano avanti la tradizione.
La piazza centrale rappresenta il cuore di Bevagna ed ospita i monumenti più importanti.
Se avete un pò di tempo potete andare a visitare le principali cantine produttrici nei dintorni della città.

Per cena abbiamo deciso di fermarci qui, posso tranquillamente affermare che è stata un' idea favolosa, abbiamo cenato al ristorante "Ottavius" (potete vedere l'entrata nella foto sottostante), e abbiamo avuto così modo di assaggiare ottimi piatti caratteristici della zona.
For dinner we decided to stop here, I can safely say that was a 'fabulous idea, we dined at the restaurant "Ottavius" (you can see the entry in the photo below), and have the opportunity to taste typical dishes of the area.
L' Agriturismo dove abbiamo alloggiato si chiama " Il Maniero ", situato in una zona molto tranquilla e immerso nella natura, dispone di una splendida piscina di cui possono usufruire tutti gli ospiti.
Restaurato ed oggi in ottime condizioni ospita nei sotterranei il ristorante che offrirà buonissime specialità umbre.

The Farm holidays where we stayed is called "The Manor", located in a quiet area and surrounded by nature, has a beautiful swimming pool which can benefit all visitors.
Now restored and in excellent condition in the basement houses the restaurant will offer delicious Umbrian specialties.
