We arrived in Florence, a beautiful city rich of art and history, the chief town of Tuscany.
We realized that we wanted to visit it, so a couple of days after talking, we left by train in the morning, and after a while we ended up in Tuscany, the homecoming was scheduled for that evening, due to lack of time but you have to stop for a couple of days at least.
Start from the beginning.
Departure at 7 that morning to pick up the train and we arrive a few hours later, in Florence only a backpack and a day ahead! Outside the station we stopped at a Mc Donald for a quick snack, after having met a nice Australian, we are then directed to explore the city and when we were able to orient ourselves we just pointed at the Duomo of Florence.
Il Duomo di Firenze iniziò ad essere costruito da Arnolfo di Cambio nel settembre del 1296 e durò quasi un secolo e mezzo, si crede che il risultato finale sia molto diverso dal progetto, e si ritiene che sia rimasto invariato solo il progetto delle mura perimetrali.
La cattedrale venne consacrata nel 1436.
I 140 anni necessari per ultimare le varie fasi della costruzione sono messi in forte rislato per via dei vari stili artistici che si sono susseguiti e che si possono facilmente notare.
Il campanile di Giotto è uno dei capolavori simbolo della città.
Si successero Giotto, Pisano e Talenti che terminò i lavori nel 1348.
Il campanile ha pianta quadrata e si innalza per quasi 85 metri. Si puo arrivare fino in cima a piedi, grazie alle scale interne. Probabilmente sarete in molti a farlo per cui, servirà un po di pazienza e fatica ma da lassu la vista è fantastica!!

The 140 years needed to complete the various stages of construction are put in strong emphasis
because of various artistic styles that have followed and you can easily noticed.
Giotto's bell tower is a symbol of the masterpieces of the city.
It was succeeded by Giotto, Pisano and Feats, which ended its work in 1348.
The bell tower has a square and rises to almost 85 meters. You can reach the top on foot, thanks to the
staircase. You'll probably be many to do so, need a little patience and effort, but from there the view is
fantastic!
La porta qui sopra è una delle tre (precisamente si tratta della Porta del Paradiso) che potrete ammirare sui lati est, nord e sud della piazza. L'ingresso principale è quello ad est che ha di fronte il Duomo ed alle spalle l'interno di San Giovanni.
Il primo a lavorarvi fu Andrea Pisano, che realizzò la sua porta nel lasso di tempo che va dal 1330 al 1336.
I due battenti furono divisi in 28 riquadri o formelle, incorniciati da rosette e teste di leone. All'interno dei riquadri venti episodi della vita del Battista e, in basso, otto figure di Virtù.
La porta restò al suo posto durante tutto il XIV secolo. Fù solo nel 1401 che la Repubblica Fiorentina decise di bandire un concorso per una seconda porta, destinata sempre al lato est, con l'intenzione di spostare la precedente sul lato sud. In molti parteciparono al concorso tra cui Brunelleschi, Jacopo della Quercia e Lorenzo Ghiberti. Per vincere bisognava realizzare in una formella il Sacrificio di Isacco.
Brunelleschi e Ghiberti vinsero a parimerito, ma alla fine prevalse il secondo. Le due formelle presentate al concorso sono ancora oggi esposte al museo del Bargello.
La porta fu conclusa nel 1424.
Ebbe talmente tanto successo anche quest' opera che allo stesso Ghiberti fu commissionata anche l'esecuzione della terza porta, destinata al lato nord. L'opera durò 27 anni ma questa volta la struttura cambia completamente: i riquadri dieci, incorniciati da una sequenza continua di testine, splendidi motivi floreali e nicchie che a loro volta contengono statuine di Profeti e Sibille (La Porta del Paradiso).
The port is one of the above three (this is precisely the Gate of Paradise) which can be viewed on the east side, north and south of the square. The main entrance is to the east it faces the Cathedral and behind the interior of San Giovanni.
The first assignments was to Andrea Pisano, who carried out his door in the period ranging from 1330 to 1336.
The two were separated in 28 frames or panels, framed with rosettes and lion heads. Inside the boxes twenty episodes of the life of John the Baptist and, bottom, eight figures of Virtues.
The door remained in place during the fourteenth century. It was only in 1401 that the Florentine Republic decided to hold a competition for a second port, destined always to the east side, with the intention to move the old version on the south side. In many took part in the competition including Brunelleschi, Jacopo della Quercia and Lorenzo Ghiberti. To win you needed to create a panel in the Sacrifice of Isaac.
Brunelleschi and Ghiberti won a dead heat, but in the end the second prevailed. The two panels presented at the event are still on display at the Museum of the Bargello.
The door was ended in 1424.
This work had so much success that the same Ghiberti was commissioned to the carrying out of the third port, destined for the north side. The work lasted 27 years but this time the structure changes completely: the ten frames, framed by a continuous sequence of heads, gorgeous floral and niches, which in turn contain statues of prophets and Sibille (The Gates of Paradise).

Dopo una breve pausa per bere un buon tè freddo, abbiamo pensato di affittare delle biciclette per girare la città. Un modo, è stato davvero divertente e facile per ammirare il centro seppur bisogna capire come muoversi tra gli altri turisti a piedi. Ci siamo poi diretti lungo il fiume, abbiamo visto il bellissimo "Ponte Vecchio", curiosato tra qualche museo lasciando le biciclette parcheggiate fuori.
After a short break to drink a good ice tea, we decided to rent bicycles to get around the city. A really fun and easy way to admire the centre of the city, even if you have to understand how to move among the other tourists on foot. Then we headed along the river, we saw the beautiful "Ponte Vecchio", we were going through some museums, leaving the bike parked outside.
E' stato divertente capitare per caso nel Parco delle Cascine, un punto verde, in mezzo alla città, davvero bello.
Cosi, colta l'occasione per riempire le borracce ci siamo schizzati un pò con l'acqua e rinfrescati all' ombra di grandi alberi.
Si trova poco distante da Ponte Vecchio.
It's been funny to come by chance in the Cascine Park, a green dot in the middle of the city, really beautiful.
So, took the opportunity to fill the water bottles we have played a bit with water and refreshed at the shade of large trees.
It is located not far from Ponte Vecchio.
Un giro tra i negozietti, soprattutto quelli di dolciumi, non è mancato. Infatti una volta riconsegnate le bici, abbiamo passato così l'ultima oretta che avevamo prima di tornare in stazione e da lì poi diretti a casa!A walk around the shops, especially sweets, it' s not missed. In fact, once returned the bikes, this is the way in which we spent our last hour we had in Florence before returning to the station and from there then headed home!
Despite the fact we had only a few hours to visit Florence, we were ecstatic!
